Vineyard Notes
Planted in 1988, the tiny 2 acre Serpent Ridge vineyard is located at the western-most edge of the Alexander Valley AVA at an elevation of 1250 feet right at the junction of Dry Creek and Rockpile appellations. This steep hillside vineyard sits upon mineral-rich, rocky volcanic soils. This amazing vineyard site in 2018 was blessed with spring temperatures and a light dusting of snow in the mountains around the vineyard set the theme for a near-perfect slow paced growing season followed by a summer ripening period that was exposed to “natural air conditioning” in the form of the Pacific fog layer in the evenings. This yielded small grape clusters with tiny berries that were bursting with deeply concentrated dark berry flavor.
